  • Spent most of the weekend rolling up the some 3000ft of extension cords and 9600 Christmas lights now that the snow is finally gone. Hopefully now I can focus my spare time back on my SmartThings integration. I have a bench model of the Garage door controller using the SmartThings Shield working and hope to get it installed this week.

Oh, yeah… check out the ZXT-120 project for a non-slider thermostat control.

I just created a device-type and project for controlling the Remotec ZXT-120 Z-Wave to infrared Air conditioner controller.

I’ve been trying to integrate with a cloud service that requires that I maintain a session. So I need to read cookies coming back and then send them in subsequent requests.

I get a java.lang.SecurityException: Invoking methods on class [Lorg.apache.http.Header; is not allowed when trying to read the…[Read more]

Hi I am new to smartthings. I am looking for video camera which can monitor my home and connect to smartthings hub. Any recommendation ? Also, is there any cloud storage I can hook into ? So, I can record videos.

    • I picked up a Dropcam but not sure if I like the cloud only aspect. I think I may just need to embrace it.

I like some of the Foscam models but they can sometimes be unreliable.

      • Thanks Hank. Let me try dropcam.
I spoke to smarthings support. They told me that they are adding support for Dropcam and Foscam.
So we can connect them to hub.

Just stumbled upon this article and really liked it http://securitygem.com/piper-vs-scout-vs-smartthings-home-security/

    • Very thorough article. I like that they promise to update the article after the get the new device in Q2. Are the 3G, Battery Backup and Monitoring something that is on SmartThings roadmap? Even to provide a battery backup power pack would be great. I have this for my cable modem.

    Hi all! I’ve got a 2-part question.

At home I’ve got a central (dumb) thermostat and several (8 if I’m not mistaken) radiators placed in the different rooms. Obviously I’m going to smartify (does that word even exist?) my home and I was looking at zwave radiator valves which have a thermometer/thermostat integrated.

    The questions that I’ve…[Read more]

Made a little video using iBeacons & Placed app to control Smartthings. Little pebble control at the end too. VERY basic- but it works!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raMQd_10s4c&feature=youtu.be

  • Really frustrated trying to find documentation to properly hook into the API and do calls from .NET. Hope the new SmartThings Technical Writer will be publishing new docs soon.

Only had SmartThings for a few days. So far it’s a ton of fun. I have a pretty large and advanced X10 network in place right now but had two ZWave lamp modules kicking around that a friend gave me. Got them talking to ST easily. Played with the rest API examples today and can now use ppower and some curl magic to allow my existing X10 setup…[Read more]

I’m a Licensed Master Electrician, and have installed a few SmartThings systems for customers. Great success with them so far. The newest version of the iPhone app is more thorough, but considerably harder to navigate..

Working on a TWO hub system between my office and home tying WeMo into the SmartThings software..

I just created my first Device Type for the Fortrezz MIMO lite and got the switch and the sensor (SIG1) working as a contact sensor. Great for an integrated garage door sensor using a magnetic contact. My code is just copy/paste as I am not a developer. If you are one, please take a look at the code here…[Read more]

Quick question: I breezed through the forum and didn’t see anything so I thought I would ask. Has anyone created a SmartThing yet that can control an electric motor or stepper motor? I am looking to create something to control my Roman Shades, and it is on a continuous loop. I just need to be able to tell the motor to go forward or backward, and…[Read more]

Just installed a ge dimmer switch from lowes- fantastic. Installed and added to smartthings in under 5 min. Response time is surprisingly good. Going to replace all my switches with these now, possibly even replace my wemo switch/hue combo which just hasn’t been reliable with ST’s. BTW Philips- make hues switch dimable.
